Barnyard Regret

This spring when we got four new chicks to add to our backyard flock, we saw the funny looking turkey chicks and considered buying one. For one reason or another we decided not to in the end.

Last week as we dressed our store bought “in natural juices” turkey we reconsidered that decision. Why had we decided against it in the end? For the life of me I can’t think of a good reason.

We had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed our little turkey, but next year. . . next year we’re raising our own Thanksgiving Turkey.

Come, Ye Thankful People

Thanksgiving

Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home!
All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin;
God, our Maker, doth provide for our wants to be supplied;
Come to God’s own temple, come; raise the song of harvest home!

All the world is God’s own field, fruit unto his praise to yield;
Wheat and tares together sown, unto joy or sorrow grown;
First the blade and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear.
Lord of harvest, grant that we, wholesome grain and pure may be.

Henry Alford, 1810-1871
