I love to watch my boys do their chores.

One of their responsibilities is to take out the garbage. Owen takes out the tall kitchen garbage and Jonas takes out the small bathroom garbage. They trot out together over across the yard. Owen opens the lid and they help each other heft up the sacks.

Today there is a problem. The lid is covered in freezing cold rain. After one failed attempt–Owen’s little bare hands just won’t let him open the cold, wet lid.

They call in the reinforcements. Dad in his jammies and duck boots comes out to help lift the lid, and they get their bags in.

With the job complete they run quickly back to the house to get out of the rain.
This week on Pinterest I saw a quote attributed to Abigail Van Buren (Dear Abby) which said, “If you want children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders.”
I hope that’s what we can accomplish here with our little chore times.
