I got on a little vintage sheet-buying obsession, and had to work really hard to rein it in.
They come in such pretty patterns and they are so cheap for such large amounts of attractive fabric.
I love the little lace trim on this one. I don’t know If I can bear to cut it up for a sewing project. I may just have to use it as a sheet on the guest bed.
I love the colors of this one. I’m thinking of sewing it into a (fully -lined) summery dress for myself. If I get lazy I may have to settle on just a skirt.
This pattern is just fun if not really very vintage-feeling, I’ve actually seen it online quite a bit, so it’s a common print apparently. I’ve already used it to make one project–but the thrift store had two sheets. . . and I bought them both.
But $2.50 for a new set of living room curtains really can’t be beat.
This fall I bought a thrifted flannel sheet to sew robes for my boys, and I also bought a large dark green sheet for the backing of a quilt I’ve been working on. I love finding frugal and conscientious ways to continue working on my hobbies.

My eyes bugged out when I saw the featured “vintage” sheets, especially the one with the lace trim that you note may be too cute to cut up. Those were one of my sets of sheets for my twin bed while I was growing up! They are still on the twin beds in my old bedroom at my parent’s house. WOW…I guess this means that I am also “vintage” and I’m only 48!
What a great post! I also love old sheets with floral patterns and I LOVE your curtains! I’m going to have to get out there and find some for myself. 🙂
What a quaint idea to use them as curtains. Love that vintage look.
Don’t you just love putting those sheets back to work, even if it is as something other than a sheet?! My favorite finds like this are buttons. You can’t beat 5 or 6 vintage buttons for 50-cents because you took them off of a yard sale find!
Hi Jeanette,
I love this post. re-purposing vintage bed sheets for darling curtains is a GREAT idea. So is using the fabric for quilt backing or clothing. I have a few old sheets that would make a good summer dress too. Thank you for such good ideas. Have a great week.
Okay, now I want to go to the thrift store and look for sheets!
I just love a vintage sheet. They are so pretty. One time, one of my roommates had some twin sized flat sheets, but no one in the house had a twin bed. We used them as curtains for a couple of doorways in the house by cutting the top flap on both ends and running a tension rod through it. This was like 2 years ago and they are still there. Best idea ever!
I love vintage floral prints! I’m trying to find some old sheets right now to make a braided rug. I love re-purposing fabric 🙂
